Your pupillary distance (PD) is the space between the centres of your pupils, in millimetres. Our lab uses it to place the optical centre of each lens exactly in front of each eye. Get it right and everything is crisp and comfortable; get it wrong and even a perfect prescription can feel “off”. Most adults measure between 54 and 74 mm. It’s sometimes on your prescription — but often it isn’t, which is why this page exists.
What is fitting height — and why progressives need it too
Your fitting height is the vertical distance from the bottom of your frame up to where your lens power actually changes — your pupil centre for progressives, or your lower eyelid line for bifocals. Get it right and your reading zone sits exactly where your eyes naturally rest; get it wrong and near vision falls in the wrong part of the lens. It depends on your specific frame, so it can’t be looked up — it has to be measured on you, wearing that frame. That’s the second photo this tool asks for, only if your order needs it.

What type of lenses is this order for?

- Hold any bank or ID card flat against your forehead, long edge horizontal.
- Have someone take a photo from 1–2 metres away, straight on at eye level. Glasses off, both eyes open, looking directly at the camera lens — not the screen.
- Upload it below and drag four markers into place.

- Sit or stand naturally — the same relaxed posture and chin height you'd have at the optician's, not tilted up or down. No card needed this time.
- Keep the same distance and camera position as your last photo — don't move or zoom — camera level with your eyes, looking straight ahead.

What if my PD is already on my prescription?
You can still use this page — just type your written PD as the note in the last step instead of measuring, and mention it clearly. We’ll use whichever is on file.
Why do you ask for my order number first?
So your measurements and photos land on the correct order automatically. We check your order number and email against our system before you even take a photo, so there’s no mismatch and nothing to re-enter later.
What if I ordered progressive or bifocal lenses?
Right after you find your order, we’ll ask what type of lenses it is. For progressive or bifocal, we’ll also ask for one more quick photo of you wearing your actual frame, so we can measure your fitting height as well as your PD — it adds about a minute.
Why a bank card, of all things?
Every standard bank and ID card on Earth is exactly 85.60 mm wide. Having one in your first (PD) photo gives the tool a known real-world size to convert pixels into millimetres — that’s the whole trick. If your order also needs a fitting height photo, that one reuses the same scale, so no card is needed the second time — just keep the same distance and camera position as your first photo.
How accurate is this?
With a straight-on photo and carefully placed markers, typically within about 1 mm — and a licensed optician double-checks every measurement and photo against your order before we cut any lens.
Is my photo stored or uploaded anywhere else?
No. It’s only sent to us once, at the very end, together with your PD (and fitting height, if applicable) and order number. We don’t store it separately or share it.
